Lindsay Steenberg delivered a conference paper entitled “Dark Tourism and the Gladiatorial Impulse” at Edinburgh Napier University as part of conference on the subject of Dark Tourism, Pilgrimage and the Digital Realm. She will look at two strands of dark tourism inspired by Roman gladiatorial fighting: its educational uses and its manifestation in combat-based fitness regimes championed by celebrities.
