Next week Barbara Eichner will present at the Medieval and Renaissance Music conference in Uppsala;
‘The paper is a spin-off of my larger project in early-modern music history. I will focus on the physician Dr Thomas Mermann (1549-1612), who provided not only medical but also diplomatic services to the Dukes of Bavaria. He was also the dedicatee of several music prints by the most high-profile composers of his age, and I want to find out more about his musical tastes, his networks (medical, musical, political), and why he keeps cropping up in the letters of Tiburtio Massaino who was a somewhat shady character!
