CREATIVE PRACTICE SHOWCASE
Dr. Grant Scott Senior Lecturer/ Subject Coordinator Photography
My work focuses on visual communication and the importance of narrative. I present and produce the weekly A Photographic Life podcast. With forty years experience working with professional photography I am ope to all forms of creative industry based collaboration.
Dr. Danai Mikelli Senior Lecturer in Digital Media Production
I am an immersive media practitioner and researcher specialising in participatory digital storytelling, documentary practice, and immersive experiences, including VR, AR, and 360° video. My work explores how creative and immersive media can support community engagement and foster critical reflection on technology and contemporary social issues. I have a particular interest in critical media literacy and the ethical implications of emerging technologies, and I welcome collaborations across disciplines on projects involving co-creation, creative research methods, public engagement, knowledge exchange, policy engagement, and innovative approaches to research dissemination and impact.
Sam Skinner Senior Lectuer in Fine Art
I work as an artist and curator, with a focus on natureculture and digital culture based projects. I also have an interest in new materialist and posthumanist philosophy.
Dr. Sarah Franklin Senior Lecturer, Oxford International Centre for Publishing and Journalism
I write and publish novels, short fiction, essays and longer-form work, as well as scripts for podcasts. Alongside this, I run workshops which are aimed at using story and narrative to make complicated subjects straightforward. I have experience of collaborative academic engagement projects where fiction is used to increase engagement and impact of complex ideas, and would be very much open to exploring more work like this.
Lindsay Steenberg Associate Professor of Film Studies
I research martial arts and combat on screen (and stage) and my practice includes martial arts as a sport (and sport entertainment), as a performance and as part of storytelling in the creative industries. I am open to any researcher or creator who is interested in looking at combat sport, martial arts or historically informed performative violence (such as HEMA or gladiatorial combat).
Kate Fahey Senior Lecturer in Fine Art & MFA Subject Coordinator
As an artist, what binds all of my work is an exploration of ways of meaning-making outwith scientific and rational knowledge systems – conventional ways of understanding the world rooted in patriarchal, white, western historical narratives. Through moving image, sound, language, print and sculptural practice, I investigate embodied, esoteric, folkloric and more-than-human ways of knowing.
Craig Taylor Senior Lecturer Publishing
While working as a jobbing screenwriter, novelist, and teacher of creative writing, I have developed a jargon-free, simple, repeatable and easily teachable system for developing powerful stories directly out from ANY interest, enthusiasm or concern any individual, client or organisation may wish to address. I also teach how understanding the underlying structure of narrative can help an individual, client or organisation understand and undertake problematic change. It’s also cool and fun.
Smriti Singh Associate Lecturer
I can translate complex academic research into clear, engaging visual narratives that anyone can understand. I can facilitate community-based dialogues that bring real people together, gather their feedback, and turn their insights into impactful creative projects. Above all, I can keep these visual stories completely true to the facts while making them visually compelling, helping researchers, organizations, and communities bridge the gap between hard data and real-world impact.
