A series of inspiring talks are being organised and led by Dr Grant Scott as part of A Photographic Live ‘LIVE’ 2025, taking place at the Digital Theatre in NHHB on Sunday, 26th October 2025. Doors open at 10:00 AM, with the day’s programming concluding at 3:00 PM. The event will bring together leading voices from the world of photography to explore storytelling, archives, and portraiture through a day of engaging conversations.
The first talk, The Story, features photographic artist Alys Tomlinson, whose black and white analogue work delves into themes of faith, ritual, and identity. Alys studied English Literature and Communications at the University of Leeds, photography at Central Saint Martin’s, and completed an MA in Anthropology of Travel, Tourism and Pilgrimage at SOAS. Her acclaimed projects include Ex-Voto, Lost Summer, and Gli Isolani (The Islanders), with her photographs held in major collections such as the National Portrait Gallery and The Bodleian Library. In conversation with Dr Scott, Alys will discuss her creative process, influences, and the stories behind her evocative images.
The second talk, The Archive, will be presented by Dr Michael Pritchard, a leading authority on the history of photography. Formerly Chief Executive and Director of Programmes at the Royal Photographic Society, Dr Pritchard began his career at Christie’s as a photography specialist and has authored A History of Photography in 50 Cameras. He also edits The PhotoHistorian magazine and the British Photographic History website. His talk will explore the importance of photographic archives in preserving visual heritage and shaping contemporary understanding of the medium.
The final talk, The Portrait, features celebrated photographer and filmmaker Chris Floyd. Known for his portraits published in Vogue, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and The Sunday Times Magazine, Floyd’s work captures the essence of his subjects with depth and authenticity. His first monograph, Not Just Pictures, chronicles his career through images and personal stories. In conversation with Dr Scott, he will reflect on the evolving art of portrait photography and the human connection behind the lens. Please book your places here
