Join us for a guest lecture by Prof. Giancarlo Lombardi (CUNY) on “Theorising Plural Television: Positional Decodings of Transnational Italian Serial Drama.”
The talk explores how non-Anglophone television, particularly Italian serial drama, is received and interpreted across different cultural and geographical contexts. Drawing on Roland Barthes’ concept of plurality, Lombardi considers how subtitles, images, sound and cultural codes shape the viewing experience of television across borders.

About the Speaker
Giancarlo Lombardi is Professor of Comparative Literature at the Graduate Center, CUNY. His research spans Italian and French literature, film and cultural studies, television studies, literary theory, and gender and feminist studies. He has co-edited several volumes on Italian cinema and political culture and is the author of Rooms with a View: Feminist Diary Fiction, 1952–1994.
